Ronnie Ball

Ronald " Ronnie " Ball ( born December 22, 1927 in Birmingham, England, † 1984 in New York City ) was a British jazz pianist of cool jazz. He played with Lennie Tristano, Lee Konitz and Art Pepper.

At fifteen, Ronnie Ball played in local bands and went in 1948 to London. After working and recordings with various English jazz groups, including Tony Kinsey, Ronnie Scott and Victor Feldman, played ball on the ocean liners of Cunard Line between Southampton and New York. He then moved in 1952 to the U.S., studied with the cool jazz innovator Lennie Tristano and played with Chuck Wayne in 1952 and Lee Konitz 1953-55. After that ball went to California, where he played in 1956-57 with Lee Konitz, Warne Marsh and Art Pepper; 1956 Kai Winding / J. J. Johnson. 1957, Ronnie Ball and his own trio with Red Mitchell and Dennis Budimir. He then worked with Buddy Rich and 1958 with Kai Winding in 1958, from the end of 1958 in Gene Krupa Quartet, with which he came to Europe in 1959. In addition, Ball has recorded with Ted Brown and under his own name (1955 ) plates. In the early 1960s he played at recordings with Chris Connor; then he disappeared from the jazz scene.
