Ronnie Dawson (musician)

Ronnie Dawson ( born August 11, 1939 as Ronald Monroe Dawson in Dallas, † September 23, 2003 ) was an American rockabilly singer.

Life

Ronnie Dawson grew up as an only child in Waxahachie, Texas. His father, Pinky Dawson, had a Western swing band, with whom he studied radio appearances. His son liked the music, and so he taught him to play the guitar. As a teenager, Ronnie Dawson founded his first band in 1956 Ronnie Dee and the D Men, with whom he won many talent contests and was eventually taken by Ed MacLemore, the manager of Gene Vincent under contract. They brought out some singles. Later, Ronnie Dawson was then as The Blonde Bomber traveling solo. As the voice change was passed with almost no impact on him, he used a long time the image of the swashbuckling, young rebel and reinforced this impression with his boyish face and platinum blonde hair.

In the 1960s, Dawson played with the bluegrass band The Levee Singers, toured with the Lightcrust Doughboys and published songs under the name Commonwealth Jones and Snake Monroe. In the 1970s, he was with the country-rock band Steel Rail on tour.
