Roosevelt County (New Mexico)
Roosevelt County is a county located in the state of New Mexico in the United States. Here 19,846 people live. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Portales.
Geography
The county has an area of 6358 square kilometers; including 16 square kilometers of water. The county is bordered clockwise to the counties: Bailey County ( Texas), Cochran County ( Texas), Lea County, Chaves County, De Baca County, Quay County and Curry County.

According to the census of 2000, there were 18,018 people in the county. There were 6,639 households and 4,541 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 74.14 % White, 1.65 % African American, 1.10 % Native American, 0.62 % Asian, 0.07 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 19.76 % from other races groups; 2.65% were descended from two or more races. 33.29 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 6,639 households out of which 35.50 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 53.00 % were married couples living together, 11.70 % had a female householder with no husband. 31.60 % were non-families. 24.70 % of all households and 9.10% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.14.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 28.10 % under the age of 18, 16.00 % from 18 to 24, 25.50% from 25 to 44 years, 18.30 % between 45 and 64 years and 12.10% were 65 years old or older.
