Threat

Due to its small distribution area that is not protected, the type of the IUCN ( vulnerable ) is "at risk" as listed. However, the species is very adaptable and there are no known incidents. The total population was estimated at around 10,000 animals in 2003.

System

The species was first described in 1998 by Marc van Roosmalen, after he had obtained from a river traders a milk jug with a monkey in it and the animal recognized as a new species. First, she was assigned to the marmoset ( Mico ), 2003 was created due to differences in physique and way of life the distinct genus Calli Bella for the type.

Today, the Black Crown Marmoset either in the genre of the marmoset ( Callithrix humilis as ) is expected or forms the only member of the genus Calli Bella (as Calli Bella humilis ). If the Marmoset be included in the genus Callithrix, however this is paraphyletic without the Black Crown marmoset.
