Root cellar

A root cellar, even natural cellar, has a base which makes contact with soil, so that the humidity of the soil surrounding it and its low temperature can freely penetrate into the storage room.

Outdoor cellar

An isolated from other buildings situated storage space found in a slope, which is then expanded with side walls and a vaulted ceiling. The vault is then covered again with soil. Old root cellar are often located close to the fruit and vegetable gardens in the edge region of a settlement, the input of the cellar is located down the road and after a brick entrance gate as downward sloping corridor leads to the basement.
