Roppeviller
Roppeviller ( German Roppweiler ) is a commune with 136 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Vosges in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region.
Geography
Roppeviller located in the extreme north-east of Lorraine on the border of the Palatinate Grunnelsbach.
History
Gallo -Roman testimonies indicate colonization in the 2nd century. So led a Roman road through the district. A first concrete mention of the village was carried out in 1314 under the name Roppeweyler (supposedly of Rappo = Germanic first name ). Due to the remote location Roppeviller has experienced a significant population decline. From 587 inhabitants in 1844, the population has declined to date to around a quarter.
Ecclesiastical Roppeviller belonged until 1802 to the parish Walschbronn and since then Volmunster. Politically Roppeviller is since 1790 into the canton of Bitche.

Culture and sights
On the trail to Eppenbrunn can be found above the old Roman road in a heavily weathered sandstone Roman rock relief known as Diana picture. In addition to hunting goddess of the war god Mars and another figure with fir are recognizable, which is probably the god of the forest, Silvanus, is.
