Roque Máspoli

Roque Gastón Máspoli ( born October 12, 1917 in Montevideo, † February 22, 2004 ) was a Uruguayan football player and coach.

Club career

Máspoli began his career in 1937 at Nacional Montevideo. In 1939 he moved within the city for Liverpool FC. The following year he joined Peñarol and remained there until the End of career in 1955. During his affiliation with the Aurinegros his club won in 1944, 1945, 1949, 1951, 1953 and 1954, respectively, and thus a total of six times the Uruguayan championship.

National

The goalkeeper Roque Máspoli was the hero of the Uruguayan national football team at the FIFA World Cup 1950 in Brazil. In the last game of the finals needed favorite Brazil, which had previously all matches in the tournament won high, only a draw against Uruguay to become world champion. A trainer

After ending his playing career in 1955 he became a coach and celebrated in the 1960s, his greatest success with his club of active time CA Peñarol. He was six times champion in Uruguay and won the Copa Libertadores in 1966 and then the World Cup against Real Madrid by two sovereign 2-0 victory in the final two games in Montevideo and Madrid.
