Rosalind Scott, Baroness Scott of Needham Market
Rosalind Carol Scott, Baroness Scott of Needham Market ( born August 10, 1957 in Bath, Somerset, England) is a British politician of the Liberal Democrats.
Life
Rosalind Scott was the daughter of Kenneth Vincent Leadbeater and his wife Carol Leadbeater. Her father, a soldier in the Royal Air Force was often deployed abroad; a large part of her childhood spent Scott therefore outside of the UK, including Cyprus and Singapore. She attended the Whitby Grammar School and the Kent School. She studied at the University of East Anglia, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in the subjects "European Studies" and German in 1999.
She was in the county of Suffolk in the context of local self-government as a councilor ( Councillor ), both at the district level ( District ), as well as at the county level ( County) operates. She was Councillor of the Mid Suffolk District Council (1991-1994) and Councillor of Suffolk County Council (1993-2005); there she was Group President (Group Leader) of their party. She was a member (Member) of the Commission for Integrated Transport (2001-2007), a think tank, and from 2000 to 2007 Non-Executive Director of Entrust plc, the landfill tax regulatory authority. She was further non- Exectuive director of Anglia TV (2002-2005) and since 2004 has been a Non-Executive Director of the Lloyd 's Register of Shipping.
She is Honorary President ( Hon President ) of the East Coast Sailing Trust. She is also a patron ( patron ) of the Pickerel Environment Project and the Pakenham Water Mill Trust and the Wings of Hope Charity Appeal.
Leader of the Liberal DIMOCRATS
8 November 2008 it was announced that Scott had won an internal vote of party members to the presidency of the Liberal Democrats, where they prevailed against Lembit Öpik. On 1 January 2009 she took office as leader of the Liberal Democrats. The end of 2010, she gave up the chair; her successor in 2011 Tim Farron.
Membership in the House of Lords
On 11 May 2000 Scott was appointed Life Peer. It bears the title Baroness Scott of Needham Market, of Needham Market in the County of Suffolk. In the House of Lords she sits for the Liberal Democrats.

In the House of Lords, she worked for the Liberal Democrats in various party offices and functions. She was Whip of the Liberal Democrats 2001-2002), Deputy Director of the Parliamentary Liberal Democrats ( Deputy Chief Whip (2002), 2001 is 2002 spokesperson for the areas Vrrkehr, Local Government and the Regions ( Spokesperson for: Transport, Local Government and the Regions ) and from 2002 to 2004 for the transport sector. Between 2004 and 2009, it is part of the staff of the Deputy Prime Minister (Office of the Deputy Prime Minister / Communities and Local Government ). since 2010 it belongs to the Liberal Democrats to the House of Lords Appointments Commission to.
Among the specific policy areas of interest include Scott's transport policy. Her special interest is the countries of the Commonwealth, India and the United States.
Private
Scott was married twice; her first marriage was later divorced. From this first marriage two children come, one son ( Jamie ) and a daughter ( Sally ). His second wife Scott married on 22 April 2008 their party colleague Mark Valladares.
Her hobbies include Scott walking and choral singing.
