Rose Kennedy

Rose Kennedy ( born July 22, 1890 in Boston as Rose Elizabeth Fitzgerald, † January 22, 1995 in Hyannis, Massachusetts ) was a member of the American Kennedy dynasty. She was the mother of the 35th president of the United States, John F. Kennedy, the former attorney general Robert F. Kennedy and U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy.

Life

Rose Elizabeth Fitzgerald was the eldest child of the politician and Boston Mayor John F. Fitzgerald (called " Honey Fitz " ) and his wife Mary Josephine Hannon ( 1865-1964 ). They married on October 7, 1914 Joseph P. Kennedy, with whom she had nine children:

  • Joseph Patrick Kennedy, Jr. (1915-1944), killed in the Second World War
  • John Fitzgerald Kennedy (1917-1963), 35th President of the United States; assassinated on November 22, 1963 in Dallas
  • Rosemary Kennedy (1918-2005), lived from her 23 years in a mental hospital
  • Kathleen Agnes Kennedy (1920-1948), died in a plane crash
  • Eunice Mary Kennedy (1921-2009), founder of the Special Olympics, mother of Arnold Schwarzenegger's ex-wife Maria Shriver
  • Patricia Kennedy (1924-2006)
  • Robert Francis Kennedy (1925-1968), American politician; murdered on June 6, 1968 in Los Angeles
  • Jean Ann Kennedy ( b. 1928 )
  • Edward Moore ( Ted ) Kennedy ( 1932-2009 ), United States Senator and a leading liberal politician, the U.S.

In 1950, she was called by Pope Pius XII. the " papal countess " collected. An award with a papal medal was not yet permitted for women.

After Rose Kennedy during his lifetime lost four of her children, her grandchildren, four children died before their grandmother.

Easter 1984 suffered Rose Kennedy at the age of 93 years, a severe stroke. The last eleven years of her life she spent in mental derangement. On January 22, 1995, she died at the family home in Hyannis Port at the age of 104 years of pneumonia.
