Rose Stradner

Stradner Rose ( born July 31, 1913 in Vienna, † September 27, 1958 in Mount Kisco, New York ) was an Austrian actress.

Life and work

She attended the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in her hometown and in 1929 engaged at the Stadttheater Zurich. In 1931 she played in Brno, 1932-1934 it belonged to the ensemble of the German People's Theater in Vienna. 1935 to 1937 she worked at the Theater in der Josefstadt, where she performed until 1936 in the title role in the musical comedy sissy. By her first husband, the director Karl Heinz Martin, she came to the 1933 film, where she received consistently significant roles.

In November 1935, she had played So Simple Theatre in New York in the play Love is Not, and in 1937 she settled, encouraged by MGM mogul Louis B. Mayer, permanently settled in New York. On the side of Edward G. Robinson she acted in her first American production The Last Gangster as the bride of a crime boss.

On July 31, they 1939heiratete film producer Joseph L. Mankiewicz. She was the mother of two sons. Rose Stradner received in the later years no more movie roles, suffered from alcohol problems and took an overdose of sleeping pills life.
