Roseland NYC Live is a live album by Portishead. It was released in 1998 on Go! Discs and the trip-hop genre attributed. It is so far the only live album by the band.
Genesis
After their second, self-titled album Portishead 1997 the band went on tour and decided to record a live album. The majority of the songs was recorded City on 24 July 1997 at the Roseland Ballroom in New York, the video consists entirely of shots from there. For the CD, two songs were added taken from other performances ( Sour Times: April 1, 1998 Warfield Theater in San Francisco; Roads: 3 July 1998 Quart Festival in Kristiansand, Norway). Was accompanied by a 35-piece band symphony orchestra.
Title list
The album consists of eleven tracks, five of which originally were on the style-defining debut album Dummy and six on the successor Portishead.
In addition, there is an issue as Enhanced CD, which also contains a short film by Andy Smith.
Publications
The album was released on 10 November 1998 initially as a CD, and shortly thereafter as a VHS video. 2002 was followed by a DVD version, on which almost all Portishead music videos in addition to find.
In the U.S., the album reached the Billboard 200 to station 155, in Germany and number 58 in the UK 40th place
Reception
Allmusic writes that the album is much more overwhelming and indispensable than an average live album ( PNYC is much more compelling and essential than the average live album). The Rolling Stone awarded 3 1/2 out of 5 stars, its readers voted it into the list of the 30 best albums of the year 1998.
