Roseraie de L'Haÿ

Roseraie du Val -de- Marne is a rose garden in l' Haÿ -les -Roses ( five miles south of Paris) in France.

The Rosarium is the first garden of its magnitude, which was devoted exclusively to the "Queen of Flowers". It was founded in 1899 by the Rose Collector Gravereaux Jules ( 1844-1916 ), a wealthy businessman, founded in the then called L' Haÿ suburb of Paris. The design of the plant was carried out by landscape architect Édouard André (1840-1911) and soon acquired through regional awareness. In honor of the Rose Garden, the city of L' Haÿ took in May 1914 officially named L' Haÿ -les -Roses ( " L' Haÿ - the - roses " ) to.

1936, the garden was acquired by the Seine and handed over to the department of Val -de- Marne in 1968. In 1994, the Rosarium was renamed " Roseraie du Val -de- Marne ."

The "Rose Garden of Val- de -Marne " now covers 1.5 acres and houses over 3,000 varieties of roses in 13 sections: Wild Roses, cultivated roses, old and modern roses from around the world. The focus of the collection are old rose varieties, mainly from the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.

The garden is open to visitors. He is also a meeting place for scientists, botanists and rose growers.
