Roskilde Municipality

Roskilde Kommune is a Danish municipality on the island of Zealand. It was created on 1 January 2007 as part of local government reform by combining the "old" Roskilde municipality with the existing communities and Gundsø Ramso.

Roskilde Municipality has a total population of 83 554 inhabitants ( 1 January 2013) and an area of ​​211.80 km ². It is part of Sjælland region. The seat of government is in Roskilde.

Community partnerships

The Roskilde municipality maintains community partnerships with:

  • Ireland Dublin in Ireland (since 2008)
  • Greece Kujalleq in Greenland ( partnership between the predecessor and the old municipality Nanortalik Roskilde Municipality since 1996)
  • Pasvalys Lithuania Lithuania ( Partnership with the former Gundsø community since the 1990s )
  • Sweden Vara in Sweden ( Partnership with the former Ramso community since the 1970s )

Thus outlasted three of the eleven official partnerships, who entertained the local Gundsø, Ramso and Roskilde to other places, the municipal reform of 2007. Through the network MECINE (Medium Cities in Europe) is the Roskilde Kommune, though with the Joensuu in Finland, Linkoping in Sweden and connected Tønsberg in Norway.
