Roško Polje

( Also written Roško Polje ) Roško Polje is a village and a plateau in the south-western part of Bosnia and Herzegovina directly to the Croatian border. The plateau is located in the southwest of the community Tomislav degrees. The inhabitants are Croats.

Geography

The area Roško Polje is karstified mountainous and strong and is about 916 m high. The climate is continental with short, warm summers and cold, snowy winters. The plain is sparsely populated, with few villages. In addition to the eponymous village Roško Polje there on the plateau nor the villages Krnjin, Vojkovići, Pavlovici, Radoši, Zaljiće, Hambar, Kosica, Zidine and Vranjače.

History

The village was founded in 1758. The first church was built in the years 1854-1859 and opened. By 1970 the community Roško Polje had about 2500 inhabitants. Due to political circumstances and extensive emigration today there are only about 850 inhabitants, who live in difficult conditions. The youth has little prospect of work. In addition, only a very poor road infrastructure is given. The water supply was realized to the laying of water pipes in the year 2009/2010 only rain water supply. Also missing nearby industrial centers or agglomerations. The barren soil allows for the most part only a cultivation of potatoes. The village has two schools. Around 100 students attend the school in Kosica, another is located in Vojkovići.

Several thousand people from Roško Polje and their descendants live scattered around the world, as both political and economic reasons people emigrated as "guest workers ". This recent emigration began mainly in the 1960s and continues to this day in a weakened form. Many of them live in German speaking countries.

Sports

The football team won the 2008 and 2011 Roško Polje the community league. In 2011, the village continued to Stipanjići on penalties 6-4.
