Rossens, Vaud

Rossens (VD ) was until June 30, 2006, a municipality in the district Broye Vully the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. July 1st, 2006 Rossens was merged with Villarzel and Sédeilles the new community Villarzel.

Geography

Rossens is located on 721 m above sea level. M., 10 km south of the district main town Payerne ( straight line ). The scattered settlement extends to an inclined towards the northwest slope east of Broyetals, in the eastern canton of Vaud Mittelland.

Population

With 44 inhabitants ( end of 2005) Rossens was one of the smallest municipalities of the canton of Vaud. Of the 95.7 % inhabitants are French-speaking and German-speaking 4.3 % (as of 2000). The population of Rossens amounted in 1900 to 77 inhabitants. Throughout the 20th century, the population decreased continuously.

Economy

Rossens still lives mainly from agriculture, especially from agriculture and animal husbandry. Outside the primary sector there are no jobs in the village.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1286 under the name Rossans 1722 appeared the name of Macrossan. The place name is derived from the Burgundian personal names Rauso or Rozzo and means for the people of Rauso / Rozzo.

Since the Middle Ages Rossens was part of the rule Villarzel, which belonged to the Bishop of Lausanne. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Bailiwick Moudon.
