Rossford is a city in Wood County in the U.S. state of Ohio and is situated on the Maumee River. According to the 2000 census, the town had 6,406 inhabitants. The city lies at the intersection of Highways Interstate 75 and the Ohio Turnpike.

History

Ross Ford was founded by Edward Libbey -Owens Ford of the Ford Glass Company. In 1898 Ford, a land with a size of about 0.7 km ² on the Maumee River, to build the Edward Ford Plate Glass Company there. When the factory started operations, Ford renamed the city resulting Rossford, he had the name from the last name of his second wife Caroline Ross put together with his own. Shortly after the establishment of the factory Ford created the recovery of its workers in the immediate vicinity of the Works Ford Club. In 1998, Ross Ford was near the defunct Ford Club to erect a monument to his centenary of the city's founding. The city's anniversary was celebrated with a parade, a festival, a concert and other events.

Education

For school district Rossford heard a public high school for grades 9 through 12, the Rossford High School, the public Rossford Junior High School for grades 7 and 8 and three public elementary schools, the Eagle Point School, Glenwood School, Indian Hills School, leading up to the 6th grade. Add to that the leading up to the 8th grade Catholic All Saints Catholic School. The building of the former Lime City School is no longer used, the Walnut Street School was demolished. The building of the old Elementary School is now used by the All Saints Catholic School.

Demography

According to the census of 2000, there were 6,406 people in Rossford; were counted 2,610 households and 1,743 families. The population density was 575 inhabitants per km ². There 2,736 residential units were recorded. The racial the population was composed of 96.3 % White, 1.3% Black or African American, 0.2 % Native American, 0.8 % Asian and 0.5 % from other ethnic groups; 0.9 % stated that the lineage of several ethnicities. 1.7 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 2,610 households out of which 32.2 % have children living with them. 52.4 % were married couples living together, 10.9 % had a female householder with no husband, and 33.2% were non-families. 28.4 % of all households and 11.7% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size 3.04.

The population was spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 8.7 % from 18 to 24, 29.2% 25-44 years, 22.9% from 45 to 64 years and 13.8 % of 65 years or older. The average age (median) was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 92.3 males per 100 adult women aged 18 and over, there were 87.7 males.

The median income for a household (median) was $ 43 776, and the median income for a family $ 57,442. Males had a median income of $ 40,516, women $ 27,560. The per capita income was $ 25,119. Under the poverty line 2.7 % of families and 3.7 % of the population, including 3.4% of the population under the age of 18 and 3.0 % of the population lived at the age of 65 years or older.
