Rostrum

As rostrum (Latin for " trunk ", " snout ", " beak" ) tapered or beak -like extensions or projections are referred to in anatomy:

  • In vertebrates, the bony part of the nose
  • In archeology: projections on the skull on Breton carvings.
  • In birds the beak and the beak -like extension of the sternum, which corresponds to the manubrium of the human sternum
  • The snout -like extension of the mouth of the bony fish (eg sturgeon) and cartilaginous fish (sharks )
