Roswietha Zobelt

Roswietha Zobelt (* November 24, 1954 in Green Knight as Roswietha Reichel ) is a former rower from the GDR. She was two -time Olympic gold medalist and four -time World Champion.

Growing up in the Erzgebirge she ran first winter sports and athletics. Because of her height, she was discovered in 1970 for rowing. The 1.88 m tall athlete stepped up to the SG unit Potsdam and was trained by Barbara Müller. In 1972, she won at the Spartakiade in the aft and quadruple sculls. In 1973 she won the quadruple sculls their first league title in the GDR and was European champion. 1974 and 1975 she became world champion.

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal she won along with Jutta Lau, viola Poley, Anke Borchmann and control woman Liane Weigelt Olympic gold in the quadruple sculls. In 1977 she won at the World Championships, together with Anke Borchmann in the double sculls. After the double sculls with Anke Borchmann finished only sixth place at the World Rowing Championships, Zobelt returned to the sculls and 1979 with this boat back world champion.

She decided her career with the second Olympic gold medal in the quadruple sculls at the 1980 Olympic Games together with Jutta Ploch, Jutta Lau, Sybille Reinhardt and Liane Buhr - Weigelt. After her career, she returned with her husband, the rowers Gunter Zobelt, the Ore Mountains and worked as a physiotherapist.
