Roswitha Esser

Roswitha Esser ( born January 18, 1941 in Bad Godesberg) is a former German canoeist.

Achievements

  • Gold medal winner at the Olympic Games in 1964 ( time: 1:56.95 ) and the 1968 Olympic Games ( time: 1:56:44 ) in the double kayak over 500 m along with Anne Marie Zimmermann
  • 1963 Anne Marie Zimmermann and 1970, with Renate Breuer, she won gold at the World Championships
  • German champion in double kayak over 500 m with Anne Marie Zimmermann 1962, 1963, 1964, 1968, 1969, and with Irene Rozema 1965, with Erika Rekitt 1966 and Roswitha Spohr 1972, as well as the one-man kayak, 1965, 1966 and 1967
  • European champion in 1963 and bronze in 1969 with Anne Marie Zimmermann double kayak, this silver 1969 four-man kayak with Anne Marie Zimmermann, Renate Breuer and Erika Felten and bronze in 1965 with Erika Felten, Irene Rozema and Renate Breuer
  • Silver at the 1966 World Championships in the quad kayak with Sigrid grief, Irene Rozema and Renate Breuer

Awards

  • Sportswoman of the Year in 1964 along with Anne Marie Zimmermann
  • Second in the choice of the athlete of the century in 1999, elected by the Neuss - Grevenbroicher newspaper together with Anne Marie Zimmermann
