The Red Veltliner is an indigenous Austrian grape variety. If the income is kept low, the variety produces intensely aromatic, concentrated and exatraktreiche wines. These are equipped with highly storable and strong acidity. However, the Red Veltliner high demands on the situation: He is very sensitive to fungal diseases and frost. The variety is very productive. If no yield regulation is carried out, the wines come rather thin. Descent and kinship

The Red Veltliner Veltliner is the root locations of the group. It comes in many varieties before ( White Red, Brown Veltliner Veltliner Silver White Yellow Ling ) and has been selected from these. These autochthonous vine holds a special place within the Veltliner group as a natural crossing partner in Neuburger, Zierfandler and Rotgipfler. The Red Veltliner is not related to the Grüner Veltliner.

Acreage and dissemination

Measured by the total area of Austria, where the Red Veltliner is mainly found, its share of 193 acres or 0.4 percent (as of 2009 ) is low. To find the variety especially at Wagram, in the Kamp Valley and the Krems Valley, occasionally also in the wine district in Vienna. The main locations of the Red Veltliner located at Wagram, where considerable premium qualities are produced.

Vineyards are also known in Slovakia, Hungary and Croatia.
