Röthbach Waterfall

The Röthbachfall is a waterfall at the southern end of the valley of the king lake in the Bavarian district of Berchtesgaden.

The Röthbach crashes south of the Upper Lake below the Röth on the Röthwand into two main stages almost vertically downwards. The height is generally given as about 470 meters, refers to how often otherwise handled, the following section with a torrent. From the Alpine Club Map of the area (scale 1:25,000, sheet 10/1, Steinernes Sea) to a minimum height of 350 meters can be read, a site visit was 380 meters. The upper main stage starts at 1250 m and overcomes, apart from small paragraphs, 240 meters, the bottom 50 meters to the Sturzbachabschitt at 870 meters. Thus, it is - just before the 700 meters northerly Landtalfall - the rank of the highest waterfall of Germany.

The water of the Röthbachs and further outpouring of the surrounding rock of smaller watercourses seeps through the boggy Almboden the Fischunkel, a valley at the foot of Talschlusses, in the existing of loose boulders valley floor and fed as groundwater flow underground the upper lake, which in turn drains into the Koenigssee. Only in severe water management of the Röthbaches, around the time of snow melt forms in the sink temporarily a small lake.

The Röthbachfall is absolutely typical of the most common in higher latitudes originating cause very high waterfalls: the Ausschürfung an abrupt Trogtalschlusses by themselves transforming in such places glacial glacier flow ( Konfluenzstufe ). The best known example is the Gavarniefall in the Pyrenees.

Hikers can the waterfall most convenient from the boat stop Salet of Bavaria Koenigssee shipping out, past the Fischunkelalm, in a good hour walk (there's a path approximately four kilometers ).

The better-known Triberg Waterfalls in the Black Forest, which are often incorrectly referred to as the highest waterfall in Germany, only 163 meters high, but touristy far better use.
