Rothbach

Roth is a municipality with 466 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the canton Niederbronn- les- Bains in the department of Bas- Rhin in Alsace region of France. She is a member of the Communauté de communes du Pays de Niederbronn- les- Bains and has share of the biosphere reserve Palatinate Forest -Vosges du Nord.

Geography

The village lies on the edge of the Northern Vosges in the valley of Roth Bach. The neighboring municipalities are Offwiller, Bischholtz, Ingwiller and Lichtenberg.

History

A first mention of the settlement dates back to the year 826

For centuries, red Vosges sandstone is quarried in Roth Bach, who earlier was used not only as a building material, but also as grindstone for the industry. After the Second World War, the reduction in Roth Bach has been temporarily suspended until Charles Loegel 1964 the foundations of the still existing Carrière Loegel Roth Bach (German: Quarry Loegel Roth Bach) created that the sandstone initially with a patented water-jet method ( Loegel nozzle ) degraded.
