Rototom Sunsplash

Rototom Sunsplash is the name of the world's biggest reggae festival. It takes place in a period of generally seven to ten days every year in early July (until 2009) or mid-August (from 2010) instead. By 2009 it was held at the Parco del Rivellino at Osoppo in the Italian province of Udine, since 2010 it has its home in the Spanish Benicassim. It was there with 160,000 festival visitors in 2010 and 230,000 visitors in the following year the biggest reggae festival in the world.

For the first time in 1993 organized play at the festival now about 100 artists, well-known international stars of reggae as well as new bands and sound system. Musical alternatives offer Free and Roots yards, an "original Ska & Rock Steady" - Area, the Dubstation and a Dubplate studio. 2005 came to 130,000 visitors to the Rototom Sunsplash more than 240,000 square meter site to which a camping and other recreational facilities include.

The festival is named after the model of the Jamaican Reggae Sunsplash and also lasts consequently every night until dawn. Rototom alludes to the characteristic sound of the toms, which could be heard on many reggae recordings, as the festival was lifted out of the baptism and initially attracted only a few hundred Reggae friends.
