Rottenbach (Ilmenau)

The Rotte river is 4.34 km long tributary of the River Ilm in the urban area of Ilmenau ( Thuringia).

It rises to the height of 580 meters high Oberpörlitzer little west of the village Oberpörlitz. First, it flows in south-east towards the city center. He feeds the Büchsteiche and forms a cleft in the valley where the railway line runs to Erfurt. The Rotte river will change its flow direction to east and flows through the Kaltebadsteich and the brewery ponds of Jäcklein Brewery and the Council ponds.

In this section he formed until 1981 the boundary between the Ilmenau town hall in the south and the Unterpörlitzer local hall in the north.

On the basis of the rotting brook the area between Ilmenau and Pörlitz is relatively swampy, so it can not be built and represents an inner-city green space. Here are some small gardens. In the following, the creek passes under the B 87 ( Büche Loherstraße ) and changes its flow direction to south.

The Rotte river feeds here Ilmenau ponds which constitute the largest wetland in the region. He was being branched so that its water reaches all six ponds ( princesses hole and Big, Brandenburg, Dixbixer, stone and Neuhäuser pond). South of the ponds of the compost stream was filled up in the field of cancer meadow partly over a ditch with water from the Ilm and expanded the mill race. Previously were at its lower reaches some mills. Today, the trench is backfilled to Ilm. The Rotte river discharges at the fisherman's hut in the southeast of Ilmenau left into the Ilm.

After Rottenbach a street has been named in the north of Ilmenau city: the Rotte river road. It emerged in the 1920s to the 1930s. The Rotte river is piped in Ilmenau town area partially.
