Rough Trade Records
Rough Trade Records is a British record label.
History
The company was founded in 1976 by Geoff Travis in west London as a record store, but developed in 1978 to a record label. The label specialized mainly on post-punk and alternative rock of the late 1970s and early 1980s. In the late 1980s, the company proposed a new way, by publishing the named after her album from Lucinda Williams.
Geoff Travis founded in the 80s along with Warner Brothers, the label Blanco y Negro Records. After the sales Cartel, the Rough Trade was inherent in the UK, went bankrupt in the early 90s, there was the label for some time no more and the Master CDs went to One Little Indian Records. Only the German sales in Herne was more active because he had split time by the parent company in London. The late 1990s was the German distribution of Zomba Records, a label of BMG associated purchased.
Beginning of the new millennium Geoff Travis bought back the trademark rights from the English label Rough Trade Records and launched successful new in a joint venture with Sanctuary Records. Among other things, the label caused a stir with bands like The Strokes, The Libertines, and especially in Germany with Adam Green. Following the sale of Sanctuary Records to Universal Music Group Rough Trade Records went into a joint venture with Beggars Banquet Records in June 2007.
