Roumare

Roumare is a commune with 1382 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Seine- Maritime in the Haute -Normandie; lies a few kilometers north- west of Rouen, Rouen and belongs to the district of the canton of Notre- Dame-de- Ville Bonde.

History

According to legend Roumare owes its name to a Rotmarus, the King Dagobert I gave this area as a reward for his services in the 7th century. Another fabulous explanation goes back to the Norman Rollo, leads an oak, a necklace and a pond to Rollonis mare

In reality it is not proven that the place name has to do with these people something. The second component -mare is probably the Norman root word mare ( " pond ", " pool "), Anglo- Scandinavian descent as the other numerous -mare local name of the Caux region, and the first component router is a personal name Rodulf or Rolf.

According to tradition, the fountain stands in the middle of the village with the vaulted cellars of the Abbey of Saint -Georges de Boscherville and the Abbey Jumièges in conjunction.

Roumare is the result of municipal reorganization in the 19th century, when the two old municipalities of Saint -Thomas -la -Chaussée ( Sanctus Thomas de Caceya ) and Roumare ( Rolmara in the 11th century and Roumara in the 14th century ) were fused together ..
