Rourke Art Museum

The Rourke Art Museum in Moorhead, Minnesota is founded in 1965 by James O'Rourke Museum of Fine Arts. It is located in 1915 built on the former 521 Main Avenue Post Office. The museum was established as the Red River Art Center and ten years later received the name of Plains Art Museum. After the founding director O'Rourke had left the museum in 1987 to Plains Art Museum and Rourke Museum parted; both institutions were again independent.

Collection

The permanent collection of the museum consists of more than four thousand works of art, most of which were compiled by James O'Rourke and need to a large extent still an art historical workup. Among the artists represented include Andy Warhol, James Rosenquist, Jim Dine, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Moritz Götze, David Gilhooly, Leonard Baskin, Fritz Scholder, Luis Jimenez, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, Marc Chagall and Adolf Dehn.
