The Ruta 5, named after Brigadier General Fructuoso Rivera, is a state highway in Uruguay.

The 500 -kilometer road crosses the entire country in south-north direction. Starting from Montevideo it takes you through the departments of Montevideo, Canelones, Florida, Durazno, Tacuarembó and Rivera.

As a four-lane street in Montevideo beginning - in parts it is there even expanded to six lanes - it bifurcates then at a traffic junction in the running in a westerly direction Ruta 1 and the leading north Ruta 5 From now on, she performs as a four-lane road to passing Progreso up to about 40 km distant city of Canelones. In the further course - now as a simple but well-signposted road in good condition - it passes on its way to the north, the cities of Florida, Pintado, Sarandi Grande, Durazno, Paso de los Toros, where it crosses the Río Negro, Chamberlain, and Curtina tacuarembó up to its end point at the Brazilian border at Rivera.
