Route 66 (company)

ROUTE 66 Geographic Information System B. V. is a manufacturer established in 1992, who offered one of the first mobile navigation solutions before there was the PNAs as stand-alone products. The spa located in privately owned Dutch company offering navigation software for various mobile devices such as series 60 phones, Pocket PC, PDA and Windows Mobile smartphones. In addition, more recently, PNAs with its own software are offered.

On a mobile phone or smartphone

Currently smartphones are supported with the operating systems Symbian, Windows Mobile and Bada. The software is a so-called on-board navigation system or sometimes just short on-board system. With this type of navigation solutions map data is stored on the device (usually on a removable memory card) and also run the route calculation. This is in contrast to an off-board system in which the calculation is performed on a server on the Internet and in most cases, the map data from there is transferred on demand to the phone.

In the solution on the phone, the position usually via a Bluetooth is read connected so-called Bluetooth GPS mouse. Meanwhile, however, also integrated into some mobile phones, GPS receivers are supported. A detailed list of supported devices can be found on the manufacturer's website.

In addition to the pure software there is also a kit version which ( cards in various sizes such as MMC or SD) also includes a matching Bluetooth GPS mouse and a universal car holder next to the media.

Pre-installed navigation solution

The delivered with ROUTE 66 Nokia 6110 Navigator was the first mobile phone with a standard installed on-board navigation, apart from smartphones with your much larger dimensions and their higher weight.
