The Route nationale 138, just N 138 or 138 RN, is a French national road.

History

The road was established in 1824 between Rouen and Saintes, consists of three sections, and goes back to the route impériale 158. The total length was 426 kilometers.

In 1969 between Rouen and Moulineaux to change the route through the opening of the highway 13 The National Road was led by a new road to National Highway 840 and took over its management to Rouen inside. In 1978 the road was extended by a new guide to Tours, for this they took over part of the National Road 158:

  • N 138 Rouen - Le Mans
  • N 158 Le Mans - Tours

Two years before this was set up, a road between Longué - Jumelle and Angers was designated as National Road 138. This and the section between Longue- Jumelle and Montreuil- Bellay was taken over in 1978 by the National Road 147. Furthermore, the section between Niort and Saintes was taken over by the National Road 150. The remaining sections were graded in 1973.

2006 N 138 was stepped up on the connections between the Highway 13 and National Highway 338, and the National Roads 338 and 15. In the N 338 is a highway that was created as an alternative to N 138 as access road to Rouen.

The Route nationale 138R, 138R short N or RN 138R, was a French national road from 1990 to 2006, a side branch of the N 138, which represented a western bypass of Le Mans for the N 138. The street is now called the 338.
