Routt County, Colorado

The Routt County is a county located in the state of Colorado in the midst of the Rocky Mountains. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Steamboat Springs.

Geography

Located in northwest Colorado County, bordered on the north by the U.S. state of Wyoming, in the west behind the current Moffat County is Utah. The county has an area of ​​6,133 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers are water surface.

History

The Routt County was formed in 1877 from parts of Grand County. Thirty-four years later, in 1911, the western part of Routt County was transferred into a separate County. Since then borders the present Moffat County directly to Utah.

The Routt County is named after John Long Routt, the first and seventh Governor of Colorado.
