Rovenky

Rowenky (Ukrainian Ровеньки; Russian Ровеньки / Rovenki ) is a city in the Luhansk Oblast in eastern Ukraine, about 55 kilometers south of the Oblasthauptstadt Luhansk located.

History

Rowenky was first mentioned in writing in 1705 and developed after the construction of a railway line from Donetsk from a mining center. Since 1934 the place has the city status. The place was occupied on July 18, 1942 to March 17, 1943 by troops of the German Wehrmacht.

According to the 2001 census, the population of the municipality was composed of the following ethnic groups:

  • Ukrainians - 63.6 %
  • Russians - 33.7 %
  • White Russians - 1 %
