Rover (space exploration)

A Rover is in space a manned or remotely controlled motorized land vehicle that is used to explore strange celestial bodies. So far Rover were the United States and the People's Republic of China, used on the Moon and on Mars, and only by the Soviet Union. The long-term energy supply of vehicles either via solar cells ( Lunokhod and Mars Rover ) or radionuclide as the Mars Science Laboratory.

Moon Rover

Started

  • Lunokhod 1 - Soviet Moon Rover, starting on 10 November 1970, a Proton-K/Block-D-Rakete
  • Lunar Roving Vehicle - large rover to transport astronauts of the Apollo missions controlled manually by astronauts in use 1971/1972 when Apollo 15 -, 16 - and 17 mission
  • Lunokhod 2 - Another Soviet Moon Rover, starting on January 8, 1973 also with a Proton-K/Block-D-Rakete
  • Yutu - the first Chinese lunar rover was suspended on December 14, 2013 by the Chinese lunar probe Chang'e -3

Mars Rover

Started

  • Rover the Soviet Mars Spacecraft Destroyed landing on 27 November 1971 at Impact - Mars 2
  • Spirit - Mars Exploration Rover ( MER -A), landing in Gusev Crater on 4 January 2004, the last radio contact on 22 March 2010
  • Opportunity - ( MER -B) landed in the Meridiani Planum on 25 January 2004, currently operational
