Roxburghshire

Roxburghshire ( pronunciation: [ rɒksbrəʃə ]; Gaelic: Siorrachd Rosbroig ) is a traditional county in Scotland.

To the west it borders Dumfriesshire, on the northwest by Selkirkshire and Berwickshire to the north. In the southeast lie Roxburghshires the English counties of Northumberland and Cumberland. Roxburghshire is named after the medieval market town of Roxburgh. The county covers an area of ​​1722 km ². Other important cities in Roxburghshire include Kelso, Melrose, Newtown St Boswells, Hawick, Jedburgh and Teviothead.

1975 Roxburghshire became a district of the Borders region. The region Borders and their Districts were dissolved in 1996 and reformed in the Unitary Authority Scottish Borders.
