Roy Clarke (footballer)

Royston James Clarke ( born June 1, 1925 in Newport, † 13 March, 2006 sale) was a Welsh footballer who played for Cardiff City, Manchester City, Stockport County and the Welsh national team as a winger.

Clarke worked as a miner and was the amateur football after. He signed a contract with Cardiff City in 1942 and after the war became a professional footballer. After he reached with Cardiff City 1946/47, the rise in the Division Three (South ), he signed in May 1947 a contract with the second division club Manchester City. As a transfer fee Cardiff was awarded 12,000 pounds.

Clarke was a decades a regular player and completed a total of 349 games. 1958 Clarke moved to Stockport County and was later briefly manager of Northwich Victoria. After retiring as a professional footballer, he led a sports shop and then went back to Manchester City, where he led a socializing club for nearly 25 years. He died in 2006 after a long illness with Alzheimer's.
