Roy E. Disney

Roy Edward Disney ( born January 10, 1930 in Los Angeles, California, † December 16, 2009 in Newport Beach, California ) was the son of the co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, Roy Oliver Disney, and nephew of company founder Walt Disney.

Career

Roy E. Disney began in 1954, the Walt Disney Company as an employee in the film section of the True - Life Adventure films (films for the "true life " ) to cooperate. In 1967 he was elected to the Supervisory Board of the company. In 1977 he left the Board after he had quarreled with his colleagues. In 1984 he returned as deputy director of the Supervisory Board and directed the animation department. He set himself the goal of renewing the animation tradition of the company, and had great success until the end of the decade it. The staff were grateful for the artistic freedom he granted them.

On October 16, 1998 he received a surprise by Chairman Michael D. Eisner on the newly opened Disney Legends Plaza prestigious Disney Legends Award.

Roy E. Disney's favorite project was the film Fantasia 2000, a quasi- sequel to the film Fantasia 1940 his uncle Walt Disney that this indeed always had in mind, but never materialized. Roy E. Disney was the executive producer of the sequel, whose development lasted nine years, and was first performed on 17 December 1999.

His position as Deputy Director, he gave up the last family member of the Group in November 2003. The then 73 -year-old with that came an exclusion for reasons of age before. In addition, differences with CEO (CEO) Michael Eisner insisted. Disney criticized his leadership style, through which the company is perceived by the public as " greedy, soulless and always looking for the quick buck ." Roy E. Disney, the Walt Disney resembled his uncle at an advanced age startling both in appearance and in the mentality, married 1955 Patricia Ann Dailey and was the father of four children. In January 2007, his wife filed for divorce after 52 years, as the reason she called " irreconcilable differences".

He was the last family member of the Disney family, which was actively involved in the management of the company. On December 16, 2009, he died of stomach cancer.
