Roy Harper

Roy Harper (born 12 June 1941 in Rusholme, England ) is a British singer-songwriter. His son Nick Harper is also a successful musician who accompanies his father on occasion.

Harper's musical roots lie in the skiffle music and the blues. After turbulent years in which he traveled about Europe, he played from 1964 in the London folk club " Les Cousins ​​". In 1966 he released his debut album, The Sophisticated Beggar. The next album, Come Out Fighting Genghis Smith ( 1968), which contained eleven-minute blues piece Circle.

From 1968, Harper appeared regularly at free concerts in Hyde Park and it developed a loyal following. In 1970 he published the album Flat Baroque and Berserk with the piece Hell's Angels, in which Harper was accompanied by The Nice. It was followed by the first U.S. tour.

In the same year Led Zeppelin took the song in honor of Harper Hats Off to ( Roy ) Harper (released on the album Led Zeppelin III). Harper himself was an admirer of the music of Led Zeppelin. He can be seen on the cover of their album Physical Graffiti and in the film The Song Remains the Same by 1976. Jimmy Page played the guitar on Harper's album Stormcock (1971). A similar reciprocal collaboration was with Pink Floyd, when Harper 1975 "Have a Cigar " sang on the Pink Floyd album Wish You Were Here David Gilmour and took part in Harper's album HQ.

1972 Harper appeared in the film Made, for which he also wrote the music ( Lifemask, 1973). Appeared in 1975 Harper's successful single, When an Old Cricketer Leaves the Crease. 1977 sang Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney on Harpers Single One of Those Days in England, which came up in the top 40. 1980 Harper was heard on the single Breathing by Kate Bush as a backing vocalist.

1984 Harper was with Jimmy Page in the UK on tour. They performed at folk festivals under various names, such as "The MacGregors " and " Themselves ", and brought the album Whatever Happened to Jugula? out.

From the second half of the 1980s, he has attracted Roy Harper, but he was still active. In 2001 he celebrated his 60th birthday with a concert at London's Royal Festival Hall. Appeared in 2005, the single The Death of God, which deals critically with the Iraq war and the film Beyond the door, which was recorded at De Barra 's Folk Club, which also mitmusizierte his son.

In September 2013 Man & Myth appeared with the 22nd studio album Harpers.
