Roy Owen West

Roy Owen West ( born October 27, 1868 in Georgetown, Vermilion County, Illinois, † November 29, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois ) was an American politician ( Republican), who belonged to the cabinet of U.S. President Calvin Coolidge as Interior Minister.

After studying law at DePauw University in Greencastle (Indiana ) West worked as an attorney in Chicago. In Cook County, he worked 1898-1914 as a member of the Board of Review, a county authority, which was also responsible for the collection of property tax. As a politician, he became active after the turn of the century. He was 1904-1914 President of the Republicans in Illinois; In 1908, he took first at the Republican National Convention in Chicago in part. 1912, 1916, and again in 1928 he was again a delegate of the federal party days. From 1912-1916 and 1928-1932 West was a member of the Republican National Committee.

Following the resignation of Interior Minister Hubert Work on July 24, 1928 Roy Owen West was nominated by President Coolidge as his successor. With the end of Coolidge's reign on March 4, 1929 resigned from the Cabinet and West; many accents he could not put in the time.

In honor of the deceased in November 1958 Roy West, the library at DePauw University was named after him.
