Roy Schuiten

Roy Schuiten ( born December 16, 1950 in Zandvoort, † September 19, 2006 in Praia do Carvoeiro, Portugal ) was a Dutch cyclist.

His greatest successes achieved Schuiten on the web: 1974 and 1975 he became world champion in the individual pursuit. In 1975, he took in Mexico City two attempts to improve the then- held by Eddy Merckx hour record; he failed.

Also in the road race went Schuiten at the start; he twice took part in the Tour de France and four times at the Giro d'Italia. In 1974 he won the British Milk Race and 1975 in Frankfurt, the traditional race Around the Henninger Tower, 1974 and 1975 the Grand Prix des Nations. After his retirement in 1985, he was sports director of the Dutch cycling team PDM Concorde. Later he emigrated to Portugal, where he was active in the hotel and catering industry. Roy Schuiten died in his adopted home of a stomach hemorrhage.
