Roy Ward Baker

Roy Ward Baker ( born December 19, 1916 in London, † October 5, 2010 ) was a British film director and film producer.

Life

As a teenager, Baker worked as a tea boy for the Gainsborough Studios in London and worked in the following years up to assistant director high, among other things, in the 30s with Alfred Hitchcock. During World War II he worked with Eric Ambler in the Army cinematograph Unit; then they turned together Bakers first film, The October Man. Initially working as Roy Baker, he added in the mid- 60s added his middle name Ward, to avoid confusion with a British cutter.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Baker has led some horror movies, mostly of the Hammer Studios, directed. Also known as a television director, he worked; among other things, he turned 18 episodes of the series Simon Templar ( The Saint, 1963-68 ), eight episodes of The Avengers and melon ( The Avengers, 1965-68 ) and four episodes of the series The Two ( The Persuaders! , 1971 / 72). In 1992, Baker retired from active film business.
