Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland

The Royal Asiatic Society ( official name: Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland ) is a British learned society. It was founded in 1823 on the initiative of the orientalist Henry Thomas Colebrooke in London, where it has its seat today, and was given in 1824 by King George IV by Royal Charter.
