Royal Australian Mint

The Royal Australian Mint (RAM ) is a Mint in the Australian capital Canberra. The building in Deakin district was opened on February 22, 1965 by Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

It was built to RAM in order to include new coins were minted in the decimal system, which came into circulation on February 14, 1966. It is the only Mint of Australia, which was not founded as a branch operation of the Royal Mint in London. Here, as in the Perth Mint in Perth coins are exclusively produced, the banknotes are printed by Note Printing Australia in Melbourne.

The RAM is able to characterize two million and 700 million coins a day. There are not only manufactured Australian dollar coins, but also currencies of various oceanic and Asian countries. These are New Zealand (only in 1969 ), Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal, Bangladesh, Israel and Tokelau.

As of October 2006, the RAM should be converted to 41.2 million AUD. The work production building should last until June 2008, the administration building until April 2009. During the year 2009, the renovations were completed, so that the new visitors' center can be used by tourists since then.
