The Royal Bafokeng Stadium (also Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace ) is a sports stadium in Phokeng in Rustenburg, in the North West Province of South Africa.

History

The stadium was named after the tribe of the Royal Bafokeng Nation, in whose possession it is. It has a capacity of 42,000 seats and is one of the most modern stadiums in Africa. Originally planned for the Rugby Union World Cup in 1995, the stadium was completed in 1999. Therefore, the Rugby World Cup was, among other things in the Olympic Park about eleven kilometers away place in Rustenburg, which is sometimes confused with the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

The Royal Bafokeng Stadium was the venue for several international soccer games. Among other things, here played Burkina Faso against South Africa as part of the qualification for the World Cup 2002.
