Royal Dublin Society

The Royal Dublin Society (RDS, Irish Cumann Bhaile Atha Cliath Ríoga ) was established on June 25, 1731 as a society for the promotion of agriculture, arts, industry and science in Ireland. It emerged from the Dublin Philosophical Society, the Irish equivalent of the Royal Society of London. The Company maintains a complex with ten exhibition halls of different sizes and a sports arena in Dublin.

Halls and sports facilities

In addition to eight smaller halls that can be used for concerts and trade shows, there are three major sites:

  • The RDS Main Hall is mainly used as an exhibition hall.
  • RDS Simmonscourt is an exhibition and concert hall for 7,000 spectators, in which the Euro Vision Song Contest in 1981 and 1988 took place.
  • The RDS Arena is a sports arena for football, rugby and equestrian sports. Also, open-air concerts were held here, including, among others, Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, Bon Jovi and U2.
