Royal Montreal Golf Club

The Royal Montreal Golf Club (French Club de Golf Royal Montreal ) is the oldest golf club in North America. It is located on Île Bizard in the Canadian city of Montreal, was established in 1873. The club area has three golf courses in parkland on, two with 18 holes and a nine hole.

History

The foundation of the golf club was in 1873 by a group of business people gather around a Scottish immigrant Alexander Dennistoun. Nine years later, the Club of Queen Victoria received the permission to perform the additional Royal. The first 9- hole golf course was located at what was then the outskirts on Fletcher 's Field, part of the Parc du Mont -Royal. In 1896 the club moved to the suburb of Dorval. The onslaught of urbanization had six decades later a move to the sequence; the former clubhouse is now used by a school.

Since 1959, the Golf Club is located at its present location, in the center of Ile Bizard. The American golf architect Dick Wilson put three golf courses with 45 holes on ( Blue Course, Red Course, Dixie Course ). The demanding Blue Course is one of the " 100 best courses in the world."

1895 was the Royal Montreal Golf Club is one of five founding members of Golf Canada, the Canadian Golf Association. On the club grounds so far the RBC Canadian Open was held nine times, part of the PGA Tour. 2007 has been conducted also the Presidents Cup.
