Royal Moroccan Gendarmerie

The Royal Moroccan Gendarmerie is a police unit in Morocco. It is part of the Moroccan armed forces and therefore in contrast to the other Moroccan police forces not to the Interior Ministry, but reports directly to the king. It is similar in structure to the strong French Gendarmerie Nationale.

Like these it takes policing in rural areas, while the Moroccan Sûreté Nationale is responsible for the cities. Both wax body are independent. A similar organization of the security services can be found for example in Spain ( Guardia Civil) and Italy ( Carabinieri ) or France.

It has 20,000 members and is composed of a brigade, four mobile groups, a paratrooper season and 18 boats.
