Royal Norwegian Order of Merit

The Norwegian Order of Merit (Norwegian Den Norske Kongelege Fortenstordenen or the Kongelige Norske Fortjenstorden ) was founded on 14 June 1985 by King Olav V of Norway and is residing to foreign nationals as well as abroad Norwegian nationals awarded in recognition of outstanding services to Norwegian interests. The reigning monarch is the Grand Master of the Order.

Order of classes

The order consists of five classes:

  • Grand Cross
  • Commander with Star
  • Commander
  • Knight 1st Class
  • Knight 2nd class

Order decoration

The religious character is a gilt trefoil cross, each with a crown between the cross angles. On the cross arms with a red cross is shown with rounded ends. As it shows the logo medallion Olav V: the letter O, in a V, surmounted by a crown.

The award for knight is only silver plated.

Carrying method

The Grand Cross is worn on a sash from the left shoulder to the right hip, and with a gilt eight-pointed breast star, on which rests the religious character. Commanders decorate the distinction of being neck orders and the second class in addition to a silver-plated breast star. Knight wearing religious signs in the band on the left chest.
