Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters

The Royal Norwegian Scientific Society ( Norwegian: Det Norske Kongelige Videnskabers Selskab, DKNVS ) is a learned society based in Trondheim, Norway.

History

The Company was founded by Bishop Johan Ernst Gunnerus, Gerhard Schøning and Councillor Peter Frideric Suhm as Det Trondhiemske Selskab ( The Trondheim Society) founded in 1760. She received the royal confirmation in 1767 and with it the new name Det Norske Kongelige Videnskabers Selskab ( The Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences ( DKNVS ) ). 1768 the Library was founded with an initial 500 books. As the oldest academic library in Norway it is now part of the NTNU University Library and is named Gunnerus library.

Conductor

Traditionally, acts a member of the royal family as " protector " of society. Until 1815, he was entitled " Church President ", but the actual was managed by the " Vice Präses ".
