Royal Regiment of Scotland

The Royal Regiment of Scotland ( SCOTS ) is an infantry regiment of the British Army. It was formed in 2006 through the merger of several other regiments and today is the only Scottish regiment of the line.

Organization

The regiment was reorganized on 28 March 2006 as part of the restructuring of the British armed forces. It consisted of six battalions of the regular army and two battalions of the Territorial Army. In August 2006, two regular battalions were merged again. The command authority of the regiment is the Scottish Division, and it is the only regiment under their command. In use, the various brigades battalions are placed under and fill different roles from.

The regiment 's headquarters is located in Edinburgh Castle, where the regiment also carries out the monitoring service. The battalions are stationed at their respective insert locations, the 4th Battalion currently in Bad Fallingbostel / Lower Saxony.

Uniform Customs and

For service uniform that is worn under other things in guard duty and to formal occasions, include a kilt and Glengarry with a black and white cock feather. The uniform of the regiment belt shows the tartan of the Clan Campbell and the so-called "government tartan ". In combat uniform nationals of different battalions wear to distinguish different colored plumes ( " Hackle ") at the Tam o 'Shanter, the beret -like hat.

The regimental insignia is formed from the St. Andrew's cross and the Scottish lion with crown and displays the motto " Nemo me impune lacessit " ( "No one is irritating me with impunity "). It is worn on the headgear ( beret or Glengarry ).

The regimental commander of the Royal Regiment of Scotland is HM The Queen, in addition, the individual battalions honor Supreme ( Royal Colonel ) from the ranks of the British royal family. The current regimental flag was passed on 2 July 2011 by the Queen.

The regiment has its own military band ( Pipes and Drums ) in the Corps of Army Music.
