Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour

The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours ( RSW) is a Scottish association of artists.

The RSW was established in 1876 with support from the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh. The founding members, most painters would thus create a body that could encourage and support them in their artistic work. This happened ( and is happening today ) mainly through exhibitions, lectures, inter alia,

To mark the tenth anniversary of the RSW a royal statute was awarded by Queen Victoria in 1886. Because of this Royal Charter, it was the company now allowed the designation " Royal" preceded by their name.
